Andry Hernandez Romero, a gay Venezuelan makeup artist, presented himself at the U.S. border seeking asylum. He was paroled into the U.S. and retained counsel while pursuing his asylum claim. ICE accused him of gang affiliation based on tattoos reading "mom" and "dad" with crowns. While he was in the midst of presenting his asylum case in immigration court, he was summarily deported to El Salvador and imprisoned in CECOT, the country's notorious supermax detention facility. He reportedly spent 125 days detained there, where he alleges he was beaten, shot with rubber projectiles, and sexually abused by guards before ultimately being returned to Venezuela.
