A queer South American woman was persecuted because of her LGBTQ identity. She was granted protection in U.S. immigration court under the Convention Against Torture, but was nevertheless deported to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where she has no ties, no formal status, and is in danger as an LGBTQ person.
