Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago triggers 56 crowd-control weapons misuse incidents, 91% by DHS, concentrated at Broadview ICE facility

DHS's Operation Midway Blitz in the Chicago area from September through November 2025 resulted in 56 documented crowd-control weapons misuse incidents, with DHS responsible for at least 91%. Hybrid weapons, primarily pepperballs, were used in 71% of Chicago-area incidents. Thirty-five of the pepperball incidents took place in the Broadview area near the ICE processing facility. Five different ERO Special Response Teams were deployed to the Broadview Processing Center in September 2025 in response to protests. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino arrived on September 10 and was quoted on September 16 saying: 'Well, Chicago, we've arrived! Operation At Large is here to continue the mission we started in Los Angeles.' A stark 55 of 56 incidents occurred after Bovino's arrival.
