ICE detentions surge in Maine weeks before Biddeford shooting

Jul 17, 2026 · Maine, ME

ICE detentions and arrests surged across Maine in the weeks leading up to a shooting in Biddeford on July 14, 2026. According to the Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition, an average of two Mainers per day have been arrested by ICE since May, roughly double the rate before that month. In July alone, at least six people were detained in Maine, the highest monthly total since a surge in enforcement earlier in the year. The article notes that ICE has not publicly reported arrest, detention, or deportation data since April.
