Cuban man, 52, homeless 20 days in Villahermosa after deportation — 'How am I supposed to integrate into society?'
2025 · Villahermosa, Mexico, Cuba
Ruben, a 52-year-old Cuban man, was deported to Villahermosa, Mexico, where he was homeless for 20 days before he was able to start renting an apartment with other Cuban men. He expressed frustration at the absence of any governmental programs to house and support deportees: 'Villahermosa does not have the infrastructure. People are living on the streets. How am I supposed to integrate into society, if I don't have a place to eat and sleep! Why bring so many people here, if they have nowhere to put them?'
