Federal agents detained more than 130 noncitizens in Charlotte, North Carolina during a 48-hour immigration enforcement operation over the weekend, with 81 arrested in the first five hours of the operation. CBP commander Greg Bovino announced the crackdown would "hit Charlotte like a storm," and the operation is expected to continue through Friday. Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and other local officials issued a joint statement condemning the operation, saying it is "causing unnecessary fear and uncertainty in our community" and calling for residents to feel secure without fear while going about daily activities. Demonstrators gathered at First Ward Park in Charlotte to protest the federal operation.
