Emmanuel Landila, a Cumberland County corrections recruit hired in February 2025, was arrested by federal agents during ICE's "Operation Catch of the Day" in January 2026 when they stopped him while driving in Portland's Bayside neighborhood. Cellphone video captured agents pulling him from his car and placing him in an SUV, while he shouted that he was a corrections officer. His I-9 documentation indicated he was authorized to work in the United States until April 2029. After being taken into custody, federal agents left his car on the side of the road with lights on and windows down. Landila's family launched a GoFundMe page that raised nearly $20,000 for legal fees. After spending a month in a Massachusetts jail, an immigration judge released him on bond in March 2026. He returned to Maine in March and resumed his training at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in April.
