Washington driver data still used in ICE arrests, UW report

Aug 4, 2026 · Seattle, WA

A University of Washington report documents 79 immigration arrests made using Washington state driver data between August 2025 and July 2026, despite state efforts to block federal access. State officials blocked ICE and CBP from accessing driver data through the NLETS platform, but federal agencies continue finding workarounds. CBP placed 1 million driver data searches between January and June 2026, while the state blocked over 100,000 requests since November 2025.
