Woman who miscarried in Eloy hears voices and is placed in segregation instead of receiving care
A woman detained at the Eloy Detention Center miscarried at the end of 2025 and reported severe medical and mental health consequences afterward. She was forced to use a wheelchair because of trouble walking, could not sleep, and experienced hallucinations in which she saw herself holding her baby and heard voices telling her to hurt herself. Although she said she was not actively suicidal, she was placed in a segregated room for her mental health, which made her feel worse; the small outdoor area she was allowed into, surrounded by bars, she described as just another cage. The Florence Project also worked with three other women who were pregnant in Eloy between January and June 2026, including one held four months until she was seven months pregnant.
