Omar David Panqueva, a Colombian DJ known as DJ Tunjo, and his husband Santiago Páez were arrested by ICE agents at Chicago's Midway International Airport as they prepared to fly out and join reggaeton star Karol G's tour for DJ after-parties. The couple, both members of the LGBTQ+ community, had applied for asylum due to persecution they faced in Colombia and held work permits while their case was pending, though their visas had expired in 2022. Panqueva had recently performed at Chicago's Fiesta del Sol and the Sueños music festival and was planning a tour to Washington, D.C., Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. He described being 'chained, handcuffed on a bus with bars' during the arrest. The couple was held in Indiana and released on bond on August 12 after supporters rallied around them, with their immigration case continuing in court and a hearing scheduled for August 19.

Federal immigration enforcement agents conducted raids in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood and Cicero on Wednesday, resulting in at least seven detentions including U.S. citizens and staff members of a city alderman. A crash occurred near Cermak Fresh Market involving a civilian vehicle and agents, followed by a tense standoff between federal agents and community members. DHS reported three undocumented immigrants were detained and six U.S. citizens were arrested for impeding and threatening federal agents.

Josue Isai Pire-Hidalgo, a 31-year-old custodian at Farnsworth Elementary School in Chicago Public Schools, was detained by ICE on July 17 during what he believed was a routine immigration appointment for his family's asylum case. The family had entered the United States in late 2022, applied for asylum, and obtained work permits; both Pire-Hidalgo and his wife secured jobs as CPS custodians. His wife and two children (ages 13 and 6) were released from the appointment, though his wife was required to wear an ankle monitor. Their 6-year-old daughter has asthma and relies on daily medication. Pire-Hidalgo has hearing loss in both ears and relies on hearing aids, which he brought into detention but has no charger for. He is being held at a jail in Clay County, Indiana, with his next hearing scheduled for July 28. The school community and SEIU Local 73 have organized support efforts including a GoFundMe that raised nearly $15,000 and meal trains for the family.

José Gregorio González, a 43-year-old Venezuelan immigrant, traveled to the United States to donate a kidney to his brother José Alfredo Pacheco, who has end-stage renal disease. González was arrested in March 2025 after accompanying his brother to a dialysis appointment, despite having no criminal record and a deportation order on file. ICE temporarily released him in April 2025 to proceed with the kidney donation. The transplant occurred in August 2025. González's one-year humanitarian parole expired in March 2026, and his attorney was seeking an extension to allow him to remain in the country through March 2027 for post-transplant medical monitoring. On July 21, 2026, González was detained by ICE during a routine immigration check-in while the parole extension was being pursued. Pacheco has experienced complications since the transplant and relies on González for care.

David, a hardworking resident of Chicago who worked at La Mijikana, was arrested by ICE. He had been sending his paychecks home to support his family in Mexico, where his mother is facing a serious medical problem. With David now in ICE custody, his family is struggling to cover both his mother's medical treatment and legal fees.

Owen Ramsingh, a Netherlands native who arrived in the United States at age 5 in 1986 and held a green card for over 40 years, was detained by ICE at Chicago's O'Hare Airport in November 2025 based on decades-old drug convictions from 1997 and 2011. He was deported to the Netherlands in February 2026 after months in detention, receiving a lifetime ban from the United States. Ramsingh had been living in Columbia, Missouri with his wife Diana and daughter, working in property management and security at local venues. After finding conditions in the Netherlands difficult, Ramsingh and his family relocated to Mexico to be closer to U.S.-based friends and relatives while his wife pursues remote work opportunities, unable to visit his daughter's gravesite in the United States. Owen Ramsingh, a long-term green card holder who immigrated to the U.S. at age 5 in 1986, was detained by ICE at Chicago airport on September 30 while returning from a family visit to the Netherlands. DHS cited prior drug-related convictions from 1997 and 2011 as justification for his detention. Ramsingh, who had worked in property management and security at music venues in Columbia, Missouri, was held in ICE custody in Texas and New Mexico. In December, a New Mexico judge issued him a lifetime ban from the U.S., and he was deported to the Netherlands in February. Unable to secure housing or viable visa options in the Netherlands, Ramsingh and his family have since relocated to Mexico, where they are working on obtaining residency and rebuilding their lives closer to family and friends.

ICE agents arrested at least two people in the parking lot of Thermoflex Corporation, a manufacturing plant, on Wednesday morning. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights confirmed the ICE activity in Lake County. The arrests occurred less than two months after federal agents arrested another person outside a nearby Uline warehouse on May 13, 2026, and made additional arrests in the Waukegan area that same day.

Domer Jesus Martinez-Sifontes, a Venezuelan national who entered the United States in 2023, was arrested by ICE agents in unmarked vehicles on June 2 in the Albany Park residential neighborhood. The arrest resulted in a collision involving a civilian vehicle. According to ICE, Martinez-Sifontes assaulted officers while resisting arrest and attempted to flee on foot. During the confrontation, dozens of neighbors gathered in the street with whistles and cameras. Martinez-Sifontes remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

Denny Gabriel Perez Ospino, a Venezuelan national, was arrested by ICE agents outside Cook County's Bridgeview Courthouse after completing a court hearing for misdemeanor retail theft charges. According to a witness, agents swarmed his vehicle as he attempted to leave, chased him back toward the courthouse, and physically restrained him at the entrance. DHS stated he was released by the Biden administration in November 2023 after Border Patrol apprehension and is subject to removal proceedings.

José Enrique Ojeda Duarte, a Venezuelan immigrant and father of two, was arrested by ICE on September 15, 2025, during Operation Midway Blitz in Chicago while heading to work. He was held in detention centers across multiple states. Despite a federal judge ordering the release of 615 people detained in the operation in November 2025, Ojeda's deportation proceeded and he was removed to Venezuela on April 6, 2026. After two months, he returned to the U.S. in June 2026 following legal action by his attorneys, who successfully challenged the deportation as erroneous in federal court. He was reunited with his wife and two children.

Ricardo Hernandez-Navarrete, an 18-year-old senior at Mather High School in Chicago, and his mother Liliana Navarrete were detained by ICE on March 16, 2026, during a routine check-in appointment for their pending asylum case. The family had entered the U.S. from Colombia in 2022. Liliana was released on May 19, 2026, after a federal judge ordered her release on a writ of habeas corpus. Ricardo was released from federal custody on May 26 and reunited with his mother in Crown Point, Indiana. Ricardo attended his high school graduation ceremony on May 28, 2026, and received his diploma. He is required to wear a wrist monitor and check in with federal immigration officials daily as his case proceeds.

Marimar Martinez, a U.S. citizen, was shot by Border Patrol Agent Charles Exum during an immigration operation in Chicago in October 2025, sustaining seven wounds from five shots fired. Exum later bragged about the shooting in a work group chat, stating "I fired 5 shots and she had 7 holes." Federal prosecutors initially charged Martinez with assaulting federal agents but dismissed the charges after Exum's text messages became public. The government had labeled Martinez a "domestic terrorist," but the agent's own testimony acknowledged the collision was merely a side swipe, not a ramming attack. Marimar Martinez was shot five times by a Border Patrol agent in Chicago. She has filed a tort claim against the federal government seeking damages.

On October 1, 2025, federal agents from Border Patrol, FBI, and ATF conducted a predawn military-style raid on a five-story apartment building at 7500 S. South Shore Drive in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood around 1 a.m. as part of "Operation Midway Blitz." Agents rappelled from helicopters, kicked down doors, and threw flash bang grenades, resulting in 37 arrests and the detention of dozens of people, including children placed in zip-ties and without clothing. Shembitrasi has built a life in Illinois over two decades, working as a barber at Frank's Barber Shop in Oak Park, married to a U.S. citizen, and father to an 8-year-old daughter born in the U.S. His uncle and employer Frank Shemitraku described him as hardworking, respectful, and dedicated to supporting his family, noting that Shembitrasi had recently purchased a home in Elmwood Park and works two jobs. At the time of reporting, Shembitrasi was being held by ICE in Brazil, Indiana, and his family expressed concern about his separation and uncertain immigration status.

Airida Gould, a Lithuanian national and licensed massage therapist who has lived in the United States for 26 years, was detained by ICE on May 16, 2026, during a green card interview at which USCIS had just approved her marriage petition. Gould is married to U.S. Army veteran Mark Gould and has three U.S.-born adult children. ICE officers handcuffed and detained her based on a 2009 removal order issued after she missed a court hearing due to road construction. During her 66 days in ICE custody, Gould was held at multiple facilities including Broadview, Illinois, Brazil, Indiana, and Kentucky. She described conditions at the Brazil facility as extremely poor. Her legal team, led by former immigration court Judge Carla Espinoza Grcic, filed an Emergency Motion to Reopen with the Board of Immigration Appeals. According to her husband's social media posts, Gould was deported on July 21, 2026.

Federal DHS agents conducted at least three immigration-related arrests in Waukegan on Wednesday morning. The first arrest occurred around 9:30 a.m. near Belvidere Road and Powell Avenue; the second around 11:15 a.m. at a Uline warehouse on Lakeside Drive where a man was detained and transported in an unmarked black SUV; and the third around 10:30 a.m. near Catrachos Restaurant on Green Bay Road. At least one detainee was transported to the ICE processing facility in Broadview.

Kevin González, an 18-year-old U.S. citizen with stage 4 colon cancer, pleaded with immigration authorities to release his parents so he could see them before his death. His parents, Mexican nationals Isidoro González Avilés and Norma Anabel Ramírez Amaya, were arrested near Douglas, Arizona on April 14, 2026, after attempting to reenter the U.S. following denied humanitarian and B1/B2 visa requests. They had been previously deported in 2011 and 2024, and were reported chained during court appearances while detained for weeks. A federal judge in Tucson ordered their release on May 8, 2026. They were deported to Mexico that day and traveled to Durango, where they reunited with Kevin on May 8. Kevin died on May 9, 2026, one day after the reunion.

Federal immigration agents were spotted at four Cook County courthouses on May 7, 2026, where they arrested at least one person. One person was detained at the Branch 23 & 29 courthouse for a misdemeanor property damage charge that was dismissed. Since February, federal agents have been at or nearby Cook County courthouses at least once a week, detaining at least 12 people at the facilities. Shah was detained by ICE at the end of November while working. He was arrested in Ohio and is now detained in Texas, while his family—including his daughter and mother-in-law—remain in Chicago facing financial hardship. The family is struggling with rent, car payments, and legal fees, and risks eviction and loss of their only income source.

ICE agents conducted a targeted enforcement operation in Shelbyville on April 21, 2026, and arrested four people during a vehicle stop. The driver, Mirzon Patlan-Trevino, 33, from Mexico, was recently arrested for DUI and determined to be unlawfully in the United States. Three passengers—Antonio Aguilera Garcia, 46, Alexis Saavedra Avile, 31, and Yoni Mora-Aguilera, 22—were also found to be unauthorized to be in the U.S. All four remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings. ICE agents arrested four people in Shelbyville on April 21 during targeted enforcement operations. The arrests included 33-year-old Mirzon Patlan-Trevino from Mexico, who had been recently arrested for DUI, and three other individuals identified as Antonio Aguilera Garcia, Alexis Saavedra Avile, and Yoni Mora-Aguilera. All four remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

Daniel Torres, a Chicago-area man, self-deported to Mexico due to concerns about his immigration status and federal enforcement. He left behind his dog, Coffee, who was brought to animal control in February. Animal rescue organizations, including Microchip Hunters and Border Tails Rescue, used the dog's microchip to locate Torres through social media and coordinated the transportation of Coffee to Mexico, where the two were reunited.

ICE agents arrested a U.S. citizen in Chicago after alleging she made a threat. The woman and onlookers disputed the allegation. Agents forced her to the ground and zip-tied her hands. The arrest followed a failed ICE attempt to access a nearby laundromat, where protesters had gathered.

A man was arrested by DHS federal agents in the 500 block of Moffet Road in Lake Bluff on Tuesday morning. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights reported it as an immigration arrest, though DHS has not confirmed the reason. He was deported to Venezuela in April 2026 despite having pending legal cases, but the Department of Homeland Security admitted the deportation was an error caused by a data systems failure. After intervention by his attorneys and his partner Leydimar Castillo, Ojeda Duarte was returned to the U.S. in June and released by a federal judge. Now reunited with his family in Chicago, he struggles with anxiety, insomnia, and trauma, afraid to leave his house or play with his children, fearing another mistake will lead to his arrest and deportation again.
