Since her release, Khan has suffered PTSD and ongoing health issues, and has become fearful of leaving her home. Advocates allege ICE uses intimidation tactics on detainees nearing release, including driving them to airport tarmacs to pressure self-deportation. Supporters are now urging California lawmakers, including Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, and Governor Gavin Newsom, to pass SB995, the Masuma Khan Justice Act.

Jun Qiu, a Chinese national who runs Fantasy Nails on Low Street in Newburyport, was detained by ICE agents who entered the salon "with guns drawn," according to Mayor Sean Reardon. Eyewitnesses reported the operation left customers shaken, and the mayor called it "incredibly frightening and traumatic." DHS said Qiu is in ICE custody pending removal proceedings; he had been arrested days earlier by local police on misdemeanor harassment and threat charges and had pleaded not guilty. The city said it did not participate in or receive advance notice of the ICE operation.

ICE agents detained a Cambodian man Tuesday morning while he was working at Veranda Asian Market in Woodfords Corner, Portland, Maine. His name has not been publicly released, but Khmer Maine, a nonprofit in contact with him, described him as "quiet, kind and a hard worker." Venkata Vasamsetty, a green card holder for nearly three decades, a grandmother, and a special-needs educator with the Wake County Public School System in North Carolina, was detained by ICE on August 11 during a scheduled check-in at the Charlotte ICE office. Her case arose after she traveled to India in July 2022 to care for her seriously ill father, contracted COVID-19, and spent over seven months abroad, leading DHS to allege she had abandoned her permanent residency. A Filipino national from Cebu was arrested by ICE during a traffic stop in Jersey City and is being detained at an ICE facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey. According to the Philippine Consulate General in New York, the man entered the United States decades ago on an athlete visa through the Gintong Alay sports program. The Consulate visited him and reported he is in good spirits and good condition. Paul, an Indian national with an order withholding his removal based on Convention Against Torture protections, was detained by ICE officers at Dulles Airport after returning from a family trip to Hawaii. Nazira Haji Zada, an Afghan lawful permanent resident, was arrested in Texas and is the subject of the first-ever case brought in the Alien Terrorist Removal Court, a specialized federal court created in 1996 but never used until now. The Trump administration is seeking to deport her, alleging she helped her son and son-in-law plan a mass casualty attack on behalf of ISIS during the 2024 election. He was offered the choice to fight deportation in a Louisiana state prison for 6 months with no guarantee of legal status approval, or to self-deport. He chose self-deportation. His wife, a U.S. citizen, suffers from a debilitating medical condition and their child has special needs. With the father's self-deportation, the family decided the mother and child would relocate to India to reunite with him, leaving behind their life in Tennessee. The mother, who has no family support locally and whose husband's family lives overseas, faces the challenge of traveling internationally for the first time with her child to a country where neither speaks the language, while managing her medical condition and her child's special needs.

Shaoping Wu, a 48-year-old Chinese human rights lawyer, was detained by ICE in mid-July 2026 while working as an Amazon delivery driver in Pennsylvania. Wu fled China in 2019 after the government cracked down on lawyers challenging authorities in civil rights cases. He arrived in the U.S. on a tourist visa, filed for asylum in 2020, and received work authorization. He had been working full-time as a delivery driver since April 2025 while continuing his advocacy work criticizing the Chinese Communist Party. Wu was living in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with his wife Li Caoliu and their 17-year-old daughter, a Hempfield High School student. Yi-Han Liou, a Taiwanese national, was detained by ICE in New Hampshire after fleeing Taiwan on drug trafficking charges. She was accused of trafficking cocaine and marijuana from the United States and Canada to Taiwan by air freight, including shipping over 630 grams of cocaine hidden in candlesticks. She had overstayed her entry in the United States. Liou was deported to Taiwan on June 5, 2026.

Neeraj Sharma, a 50-year-old Indian native and owner/CEO of staffing company Magnavision LLC in New Jersey, is facing denaturalization after being convicted of fraud and misuse of visas. As an officer of Magnavision, Sharma signed and filed eleven fraudulent H-1B visa petitions with USCIS, falsely representing that visa beneficiaries would be employed with a particular global financial institution and including forged signatures of executives on corporate letterhead. In 2017, Sharma applied for naturalization and falsely asserted under penalty of perjury that he had never committed crimes, provided false information to U.S. officials, or lied to gain immigration benefits. He naturalized in December 2017. The Department of Justice seeks to revoke his citizenship.

Thien, who arrived in the U.S. as a refugee in 1984 at age 3 and became a permanent resident, lost his green card status at 16 due to a mistake. After serving his sentence, he was placed on an order of supervision rather than deported because Vietnam was not accepting deportees. For 24 years, he complied with every condition of the order, maintained work authorization, built a business, and raised a family. When he attended a scheduled immigration appointment, he was detained within 10 minutes without an interview and is now facing deportation.

Dy Nguyen, a Vietnamese refugee who lived in the United States for 27 years, was detained by ICE for almost 8 months beginning in October 2025 before being deported to Vietnam. During his detention at Stewart Detention Center in Atlanta, his newborn son was born, whom he never physically held. His attorney at the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund pursued legal action for his release, but the case was delayed for over six months. Nguyen was shackled for 35 hours during flights and spent an additional 30 hours on buses traveling through Vietnam after deportation, separated from his family of five and his church community.

Benedict Vipinosa, a 34-year-old Filipino seafarer, was accused of possessing child sexual abuse material but was never charged with a crime. He was deported and received approximately $813 in Philippine government assistance, which he stated was insufficient to sustain his livelihood.

Victor San Shing Kwok, a 50-year-old native of the People's Republic of China, is facing denaturalization after being accused of using multiple identities and concealing prior immigration denials. In September 1994, Kwok sought admission under the identity Xin Cheng Guo. After an immigration judge denied his application, Kwok married a U.S. citizen and applied to adjust his resident status. He failed to disclose the prior denial of his application and his pending order of removal. There is no record that Kwok departed the United States as ordered by the immigration judge. The Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia filed a civil denaturalization complaint on June 4, 2026.

Mohammad "Daniel" Hussain Ahmadi, a former Afghan army intelligence officer and member of the Hazara ethnic minority, was paroled into the U.S. in May 2024 and complied with all immigration conditions for nearly two years. On March 2, 2026, he was detained by ICE after appearing for a routine immigration check-in, with the government claiming his original parole was an error. On June 3, 2026, Chief Judge Peter Welte granted Ahmadi's habeas corpus petition, finding the detention violated his Fifth Amendment due process rights and ordering his release unless an immigration court granted him a bond hearing within one week.

Local authorities released him from jail without notifying ICE. Federal immigration officials arrested Patel on May 18 after his release. He was previously convicted for two felony counts of rape of a child in Washington County, Washington. Raul Retana-Ramos, a Mexican national, was arrested by ICE. He was previously convicted for trafficking 400 grams or more of cocaine by possession and transport in Guilford County, North Carolina. Nazarjon Gayratjonovich Abdukahorov, an Uzbek national, was arrested by ICE. He was previously convicted for lure/entice child by various means in Essex County, New Jersey, and is a registered sex offender under Megan's Law. Daniel Leal, a Mexican national, was arrested by ICE. He was previously convicted for attempted robbery causing physical injury in Jamaica, New York.

An Indian family of four — parents Jagdish and Gurwinder, and children Guri (12) and Manpreet (11) — were detained by ICE during a routine check-in appointment in February 2026 and held at the Dilley family detention center in Texas. The family fled Punjab, India, after Jagdish converted from Sikhism to Catholicism and faced persistent threats and violence. They arrived in the U.S. in 2022 seeking asylum and settled in Los Angeles. During detention, Guri developed bleeding in his stools without specialist referral, Manpreet lost 6 pounds after a week of vomiting she attributed to tap water, and Gurwinder's arthritis and diabetes worsened without proper medication — her daughter helps her out of bed each morning. Both children have shown behavioral changes: Manpreet is often angry, Guri has stopped listening to his parents. Manpreet celebrated her 11th birthday in detention with a makeshift cake from commissary snacks — she said if there had been candles, she would have wished for her family to leave Dilley. The family reported no meat-free options on the days their Sikh-Hindu faith requires vegetarian meals. Manpreet stopped attending classes because they were taught in Spanish, which she does not speak. Guri stopped attending after his mother's health declined.

Vivian Do's father was detained by ICE on March 5 at a GEO processing facility in Adelanto, California. Despite legal assurances and ICE's own notification that he would not be moved until June 5, he was transferred without notice on May 14, flown from Los Angeles to San Francisco, and deported to Vietnam the same day. The family had spent over $50,000 in legal fees seeking his release.

Tuan Van Bui, a 55-year-old Vietnamese national who legally entered the U.S. in 1990 under the Amerasian Homecoming Act, died on April 1, 2026, at Miami Correctional Facility in Bunker Hill, Indiana while in ICE custody. Staff found him unresponsive, initiated CPR, and called emergency services; he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. His autopsy ruled the death natural, caused by hypertensive arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Bui had been ordered removed from the country by an immigration judge in 2005 and was challenging his detention through a habeas corpus petition at the time of his death.
