ICE arrests 1,226 people in Georgia operation, 720 with criminal convictions or charges

ICE conducted "Operation Safe Community – Atlanta," an enhanced immigration enforcement operation across Georgia, resulting in the arrest of 1,226 noncitizens. According to ICE, 720 of those arrested had been convicted of or charged with crimes in the United States, including sex offenses, crimes against children, aggravated assault, drug offenses, burglary, weapons violations, and driving under the influence. All 1,226 individuals were in violation of US immigration law. The operation included arrests at locations such as a trucking company known for employing undocumented workers. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations executive Marcos Charles stated that agents adapted enforcement tactics in response to protests and interference with arrests.
