Brooklyn restaurant owner loses half staff as Haiti TPS ends

Aug 27, 2026 · Brooklyn, NY, Haiti

A Supreme Court ruling allowed the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status for approximately 350,000 Haitians, effective July 27, 2026. Brooklyn restaurant owner Wesly Simon lost nine employees and experienced a 40-60% drop in sales. Over 40,000 Haitian TPS holders in New York contributed more than $140 million annually in state and local taxes. The termination affects workers, employers, and immigrant communities dependent on these businesses.
