ICE to expand Batavia detention facility though most held have no criminal record
Oct 2, 2026·Location: Batavia, NY
Rep. Tim Kennedy released a letter from Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirming a $17 million, 100-bed expansion of the ICE Buffalo Service Processing Center in Batavia, funded through Trump's tax and spending law. Mullin's letter states 653 people are currently detained there and only 28% have a criminal background. The expansion follows a new New York state law ending local 287(g) agreements with ICE, prompting the agency to build its own detention capacity on federal property.
