Arístides Fernández García, 37, a Cuban who owned a trucking company and had been living in the U.S. under an I-220A release order since 2022, was detained by ICE in January when he appeared before a judge at a Miami immigration court. He was held at the South Florida Detention Facility known as 'Alligator Alcatraz' before being shackled at his feet, hands, and waist and deported on a 22-hour flight to Bangui, Central African Republic, arriving August 1. 'I paid taxes, I never got a traffic ticket. I did everything right,' he said. Upon arrival, local authorities gave deportees injections without explanation; he is now confined at a guarded complex in Bangui without identification or legal status.
