Queens officials and community groups rally against ICE surge in East Elmhurst
Aug 17, 2026 · East Elmhurst, NY

Assemblymember Larinda Hooks and other elected officials, including Catalina Cruz, Jessica González-Rojas, Alicia Hyndman and Clyde Vanel, along with groups like Make the Road NY, the NAACP and Las Doñas, rallied at Barclay Triangle in East Elmhurst against what they described as a surge in ICE activity in the neighborhood. Organizers said ICE pick-ups along Astoria and Northern Boulevards rose from two in June to 14 in July, and accused federal agents of targeting immigrants with no criminal record. The rally launched a week of bilingual Know Your Rights pop-ups and concluded with a door-to-door canvass to raise awareness among residents.
