Florida's ICE office leads nation in arrests amid expanding local police partnerships

ICE's Miami field office, covering Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, is now averaging about 120 arrests a day, the fastest pace of any of the agency's 25 field offices nationwide, with cumulative arrests topping 41,000 since the start of 2025. Officials and attorneys attribute the surge to a large immigrant population and extensive 287(g) agreements allowing local police across all 67 Florida counties to carry out federal immigration enforcement. Certain municipalities, such as Sunny Isles Beach, and industries like cleaning services have seen disproportionate impacts, with attorneys noting routine traffic stops increasingly leading to immigration arrests.
