Advocacy group condemns bill funneling $150 billion into immigration detention expansion

Jul 9, 2025 · Washington, DC

Freedom for Immigrants issued a statement condemning a new spending bill that allocates $150 billion for immigration enforcement, including $45 billion for new detention centers and $32 billion to expand deportation operations. The organization's executive director warned the expansion would intensify human rights abuses, medical neglect, and family separations within the detention system. The bill also cuts health care and food assistance programs to fund immigration enforcement.
