President Trump signed a bill adding roughly $70 billion in funding for ICE and CBP through the end of his term, on top of $170 billion already allocated for immigration enforcement. Freedom for Immigrants criticized the bill, noting it comes the same week 50 deaths in ICE custody were recorded during Trump's term, and warned expanded detention capacity will lead to more deaths and human rights abuses. The organization argued private prison corporations and Trump allies will financially benefit while everyday people struggle economically.
