Pauline Nadege Binam, 36, a Cameroonian woman who came to the U.S. at age 2, has been held at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia since December 2025. Advocates and Georgia lawmakers are calling for her release and reunification with her 17-year-old U.S. citizen daughter, saying Binam remains fearful of seeking medical care in detention. During an earlier detention at the Irwin County Detention Center, Binam said she underwent a gynecological procedure without her consent, during which a doctor removed one of her fallopian tubes, an allegation that was part of a broader scandal at that facility. Her attorney says she is pursuing a U visa tied to her cooperation with authorities after surviving domestic violence and may seek to reopen her removal case based on fears of persecution if returned to Cameroon.
