Activists disrupt Columbus council meeting demanding end to ICE-linked surveillance cameras

Aug 25, 2026·Location: Columbus, OH

Activists from the Safety No Surveillance Coalition interrupted a Columbus City Council meeting to deliver a petition with nearly 700 signatures calling for the city to end its contract with Flock Safety, which operates license plate-reading cameras. The protest followed concerns that a police audit found over 15,000 camera searches possibly related to immigration enforcement. The city has since paused nationwide and statewide data sharing while the contract, set to expire in December, is reconsidered.
