Haitians face deportation as ICE targets TPS holders in Springfield, Ohio
Aug 28, 2026·Location: Springfield, OH
Country of origin: Haiti

Following the termination of Temporary Protected Status for roughly 350,000 Haitians, ICE has conducted deportation flights to Haiti, with about 300 people removed over two weeks, including one flight of Haitian men shown in a DHS video departing at night in the rain. In Springfield, Ohio, home to about 15,000 Haitians, hundreds were told to check in with immigration authorities and many were fitted with ankle monitors; as of last week, 29 Haitian immigrants had been taken into custody by ICE in the city. Conservatives including Steve Bannon and Daniel Di Martino criticized the pace of deportations as insufficient given the size of the Haitian population, while religious leaders in Springfield held a press conference describing the city as being "under siege."
