Victor Salgado Araujo, 44, was riding as front-seat passenger in his brother Lorenzo Salgado Araujo's van when an ICE agent fatally shot Lorenzo during a traffic stop in Houston on July 7, 2026, allegedly firing the weapon directly in front of Victor's face. Victor was detained immediately and held for 54 days at the Montgomery ICE Processing Center in Conroe, where he learned of his brother's death and was unable to attend the funeral or grieve with his family. His attorney, Ruby Powers, said Victor is a material witness expected to testify before a Harris County grand jury investigating the shooting. He was released and reunited with his family in late August 2026, becoming the last of the three witnesses freed from ICE custody, and is pursuing a U visa as a crime victim while also facing separate removal proceedings.
