Haitian TPS Holders Celebrate Culture at NY Parade Despite Losing Legal Status

Sep 7, 2026·Location: Brooklyn, NY

Country of origin: Haiti

After the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status for Haiti, roughly 350,000 Haitian immigrants nationwide lost their legal status, including thousands in New York. Despite fears over increased immigration enforcement, many Haitians, including Dimitry Celony whose TPS ended in late July, attended the West Indian American Day Parade in Brooklyn to celebrate their culture and show unity. The event reflected a mix of joy, pride, and anxiety amid the policy change.
