Luis Felipe Olarte and his 19-year-old son, Luis Alejandro Olarte, were pulled over and detained by immigration agents on I-95 in St. Johns County, Florida, while Luis Felipe was driving his son back to Washington and Lee University to begin his sophomore year. Luis Alejandro had earned a full QuestBridge scholarship after finishing high school with an associate's degree already completed. The family's car was towed, and both father and son are being held at Baker Correctional Institute in Sanderson, Florida. The family has an asylum case pending in immigration court, holds valid work permits, and says neither man has ever been arrested.
