The ACLU announced that its affiliates have filed 54 legal claims in 17 states and Washington, D.C. under the Federal Tort Claims Act on behalf of people who suffered violence, abuse, or neglect from federal immigration agents since the start of the Trump administration's second term. The claims include cases of two men killed by federal agents: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, shot by ICE agents in unmarked vehicles in Texas while on his way to work, and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, shot by a federal agent in Maine. ACLU deputy executive director Yasmin Cader said the claims show a pattern of violence and misconduct by federal agents against immigrants, U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, families, and workers.
