Rep. Ilhan Omar is introducing the Make ICE Pay Act, which would block nearly $140 billion in ICE and CBP funding and redirect it to local recovery efforts. The bill responds to Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis, which resulted in nearly 4,000 arrests and the fatal shooting of two U.S. citizens, Renée Good and Alex Pretti. The legislation also targets other enforcement operations in Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, North Carolina and Oregon.
