U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement partnered with the Florida Highway Patrol, Lee County Sheriff's Office, Florida National Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and U.S. Customs and Border Protection in a weeklong operation from Aug. 24 through Aug. 27 that resulted in roughly 500 arrests in Southwest Florida. Those arrested included nationals of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Venezuela, some with prior deportation orders, repeated unauthorized reentries, or criminal histories including battery, DUI, hit-and-run, domestic violence and resisting arrest. ICE officials and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis touted the operation as an example of federal, state and local law enforcement cooperation on immigration enforcement.
