Data shows rising ICE arrests outside Oregon big-box stores

The Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition, which tracks and verifies immigration arrests in Oregon, reported that nearly one in three immigration arrests logged in August took place outside a big-box store or supermarket. The coalition verified 52 such arrests statewide between Jan. 1 and Sept. 9, with 27 occurring since Aug. 1, at stores including Walmart, WinCo, Home Depot, Lowe's, Fred Meyer, Costco, Safeway and Ross. Walmart, WinCo and Home Depot had the highest arrest counts at their Oregon locations this year, and retailers said they do not coordinate with ICE and are not notified in advance of enforcement actions; Home Depot said it does not grant ICE access to its license plate readers.
