Courts free Iranian detainees faster than ICE can arrest them, data shows

Country of origin: Iran

A Bloomberg Law analysis of ICE detention data found that federal courts have been ordering the release of Iranian detainees at a rate of about 25 per month since fighting between the US and Iran escalated, outpacing the roughly 21 Iranians ICE arrests monthly during that period. An additional 28 Iranians are released each month by DHS or immigration judges. More than 300 Iranian immigrants remained in ICE detention as of Aug. 6, the most recent date with available data, with judges increasingly rejecting the government's claims that removal to a third country is imminent. DHS disputed the analysis, saying the data was "cherry picked" to "peddle a false narrative."
