Elia, a mother of three who has worked as a housekeeper for nearly 20 years, was detained by police and placed on an ICE hold while traveling to see her dying grandmother in hospice care. Her daughter Sindy describes her as the family's devoted caregiver and provider, noting that her son Jonathan, who has autism, relies on her daily for support and advocacy. With Elia in custody, the family is raising money through a GoFundMe campaign to cover everyday expenses and anticipated legal costs.
