Wisconsin sheriff races hinge on ICE 287(g) cooperation deals
Nov 3, 2025·Location: Baraboo, WI
Voters in Sauk and Winnebago counties, Wisconsin, will choose sheriffs with differing views on 287(g) agreements that allow local jail officers to assist ICE with immigration enforcement. Democratic candidates in both counties pledge to end the agreements, while Republican opponents support continuing them in some form. ICE has made about 100 arrests in Sauk County since January 2025, almost all through custody transfers at the local jail under the 287(g) partnership.
