Jan 10, 2026·Location: Maple Grove, MN
Country of origin: Ecuador

Luis Caiza, an asylum seeker from Ecuador with a work permit, was pulled from his car by ICE officers during a traffic stop in Maple Grove, Minnesota and thrown to the ground, where his wife says officers kneed and kicked him while he was down. His wife, Marjorie Flores, was also pulled from the car and thrown onto the icy street, and said officers pointed a weapon at her while she pleaded that they had three children at home. Caiza has now been detained for nearly 10 months, recently lost an asylum appeal, and the family says he has no criminal record. The separation has left Flores working three jobs and 93 hours a week to support their three children, Camila, 18, Sneyder, 13, and Emilio, 10.
