National Guard troops transported detainees in chaotic Camarillo cannabis farm raid
Jul 10, 2025·Location: Camarillo, CA

An internal U.S. Northern Command after-action review, obtained via FOIA and shared with MS NOW, reveals that National Guard troops from the 49th Military Police Brigade were more directly involved than previously known in a massive immigration raid at a Ventura County cannabis farm. The document indicates soldiers helped take custody of and transport detainees to Naval Base Ventura County in military vehicles, actions legal experts say may have violated the Posse Comitatus Act, which bars military involvement in domestic law enforcement. About 500 ICE and Border Patrol agents detained at least 361 people during the raid, one immigrant died after falling from a roof while fleeing, and hundreds of protesters clashed with federal agents and troops, throwing objects and blocking vehicles. A federal judge had already ruled in September 2025 that the administration violated the Posse Comitatus Act during the operation, based on more limited public information available at the time.
