ICE arrests over 100 in Central Valley raids, alarming Bay Area communities
Oct 8, 2026·Location: Kerman, CA

Since Monday, ICE agents arrested more than 100 farmworkers and other residents across California's Central Valley, including people heading to work or running errands, with local officials saying agents did not appear to have warrants or target individuals with criminal records. In Kerman, Mayor Maria Pacheco said eight residents were detained between Wednesday and Thursday, including four men picked up while getting coffee and pastries on their way to work; she said local police do not cooperate with ICE on enforcement. More than 60 detainees were being held at a downtown Fresno facility that was struggling to process them, and one office received a call from a child whose parents were both detained and who did not know what to do. Bay Area rapid response networks and lawmakers said they were monitoring the situation and preparing legal assistance in case enforcement activity expands into Northern California.
