Ali Slayie, a 2025 Northwestern University graduate who works at Deloitte, was detained by ICE while boarding a flight from Seattle to San Francisco after returning from a business trip. According to a GoFundMe campaign, agents told him his F-1 visa had expired, and though he explained he had a pending asylum application, he was taken into custody. DHS said the detention occurred during a 'targeted enforcement operation' at SeaTac International Airport and that Slayie had violated the terms of his admission by not departing by a required date. He is being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington, while a fundraiser seeks to cover his legal expenses.
