Ciceli Martinez, a Honduran mother who had lived in Louisville for more than 12 years with no criminal record, was deported to Honduras, leaving behind four children, three of them U.S. citizens under age 12. She was detained on September 10, 2025 during a scheduled check-in with ICE's Alternatives to Detention program, then transferred between facilities in Indiana and Louisiana over four months in custody, where she said she was assaulted by other detainees and left with bruises from handcuffs. Her attorney requested a credible fear interview within 48 hours of her detention, but she was nearly put on a deportation flight before it occurred, and the interview ultimately took 72 days instead of the legally required seven. Her oldest son, Deivys, 20, a permanent resident, is now raising his younger siblings alone while Martinez's attorney has filed a U-Visa application that could take years to resolve.
