Elianne Behena and Jax Lopez, staff members for Chicago's 22nd Ward Alderman Michael Rodriguez, were detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents near 26th and Kostner in Little Village while warning the community about immigration enforcement in the area. Behena, who is also an elected official in the 10th District, and Lopez spent seven hours in federal custody before a volunteer lawyer helped locate them and secure their release. Rodriguez said at least eight people were detained in the same operation, and the pair were reunited with coworkers and community members who had gathered outside his office. Neither Behena nor Lopez spoke to media afterward, and Rodriguez said they had not decided whether to pursue legal action.
