Arizona state senator Analise Ortiz reshared an Instagram post warning that immigration enforcement agents were near Southwest Elementary School, prompting a viral right-wing campaign accusing her of endangering ICE agents. No photos or identifying information about agents were included in the post. Republican state senators, led by Jake Hoffman, filed an ethics complaint seeking to expel her from the legislature or strip her of committees and staff, and the complaint was referred to the US attorney's office for potential federal investigation. Ortiz said she received an inbox full of harassing and threatening messages and vowed not to be intimidated, while Arizona's Democratic attorney general called the complaint protected speech and an attempt to silence her.
