Claudio David Balcane González, a 27-year-old Venezuelan singer known online as Davicito59, was granted asylum in July after a judge told him 'Welcome to the United States.' Despite winning his case, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement kept him detained for 63 more days at a Wisconsin immigration facility, where he had already spent three months in custody. ICE had detained Balcane in April, shortly after he went viral with a song pleading with President Trump not to deport immigrants like him. Several legal experts called the continued detention after his asylum grant unlawful.
