Albert Jesús Rodríguez Parra, a 28-year-old Venezuelan man who worked at Chicago's Wrigley Field and lived with his girlfriend, was detained by ICE agents at his apartment in November 2024 while his asylum case was pending in immigration court. He was transferred through detention facilities in Indiana, Missouri, Central Texas and Laredo, and a judge denied him bond over a prior shoplifting conviction despite noting his final asylum hearing was only 10 days away. Five days after that hearing, on March 15, 2025, he was deported to El Salvador's CECOT prison without his lawyer being told where he had been sent, even though his asylum claim was still pending.
