Luis Alvarez, a Nicaraguan man who helped rescue nine-year-old Leah Lendel after she was attacked by a shark off Boca Grande, Florida, was detained by ICE after police stopped him for driving without headlights on. Witnesses said Alvarez was the first person to jump into the water to help the injured girl, with fellow rescuer Raynel Lugo describing how he went underwater without regard for his own safety. Alvarez is being held in jail and is scheduled for a court hearing on July 9.
