Christian Miranda Romano is a U.S. citizen teenager who was working at a Target store in Richfield, Minnesota, when Border Patrol agents detained him on January 8, 2026. Family members said Romano presented his birth certificate and social security card to agents, who told them they didn't care that he was a citizen and refused to release him. He was taken to the Fort Snelling detention center, where relatives say he remained held with no communication allowed. Romano had no criminal history, and family members say he and coworker Jonathan Aguilar Garcia were merely recording the agents' actions at the store when they were detained. The detention occurred during a broader Border Patrol operation targeting Target stores in the Twin Cities under Chief Greg Bovino, and it prompted protests demanding accountability and restrictions on warrantless agent entry into businesses.
