Mónica (name changed), originally from Mexico, has lived in the United States for more than 20 years. On December 14, 2025, around 7 a.m., she was sitting in her car in an apartment parking lot in Richfield, Minnesota, on her way to the laundromat, when ICE vehicles pulled in front of and behind her. Agents knocked on her window and, when she did not open the door right away, smashed it. She had just called her sister to go to her house and look after her children. Agents told her she was under arrest and took her to the Whipple federal building without showing a warrant. She says she was pressured there to accept "voluntary" departure and was given no food during hours in custody. She was detained for more than a month before being released and remains in deportation proceedings.
