A man held at the Golden State Annex Detention Facility in California filed a habeas corpus petition after being re-detained by immigration authorities without a hearing, despite having previously been released. A federal judge in the Eastern District of California ordered the government not to remove him from the United States or transfer him out of the district while the court considers his motion for a temporary restraining order. The judge noted the case appeared similar to several other cases he had previously decided and directed the government to identify the legal authority it relied on to detain him.
