Yunior Sosa Ordonez, a Lyft driver from Cuba who has lived in Louisville since 2021, was carjacked at gunpoint by a passenger in May 2024 while working. He has lawful employment authorization, a Social Security number, a driver's license, and has applied for asylum and a U-visa as a crime victim, but has now been detained by ICE for four months. Prosecutors say ICE has refused to release him to testify at the trial of his alleged attacker, and his attorney says ICE and immigration court have each denied responsibility for authorizing his release, leaving him in what he calls a 'jurisdictional vacuum.' A former judge said the case against the alleged robber could be dismissed without Ordonez's testimony.
