William 'Will' Lizardo, a Canadian-born dentist who met his wife Lauren at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, was detained by ICE agents during a green card interview in downtown Minneapolis. The couple, who have an 18-month-old daughter, learned during the interview that a deportation order had been issued against him after he failed to respond to a notice to appear sent to a Virginia address they hadn't lived at for more than two years. Lauren Lizardo said they had been meticulous about tracking his case through an immigration portal and had received other official communications at their current Minnesota address, but no one had mentioned the deportation order. Their attorney, David Whalen, called Will an excellent green card candidate and said he was filing an emergency motion for his release.
