Thousands of undocumented immigrants held in 170 undisclosed ICE detention sites
Mar 18, 2026

ICE operates 170 unofficial detention sites across the country, including four in Arizona, where over 140,000 undocumented immigrants were held between January and October 2025. These facilities are held to different standards than official detention centers and lack basic amenities like beds and toilets. Federal data shows thousands of violations of the 72-hour detention limit, with some detainees held for weeks or months, including nearly 750 children detained at a Phoenix facility.
