Nearly 20,000 undocumented immigrants arrested in D.C. region during Trump's second term

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested nearly 20,000 undocumented immigrants across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia from early 2025 through March 10, 2026, marking a significant increase from approximately 3,800 arrests during the final year of the Biden administration. Federal data showed nearly 60 percent of those arrested had no prior criminal record. Enforcement activity intensified following an August crime emergency declaration, with over 1,400 arrests in Washington between August and November, before declining sharply in December following a judicial ruling that questioned the legality of certain enforcement practices.
