An Iranian woman who had been granted court protection against deportation to Iran after a judge determined she faced credible fears of persecution based on politics or religion was deported from the United States on June 12, 2026. She was among approximately two dozen migrants on a deportation flight from Louisiana to the Central African Republic, part of the Trump administration's third-country deportation agreements with African nations. According to her attorney Emily Trostle, she was removed from the United States and abandoned in a country where she has no status, no connection, and no support network. The deportation flight also carried migrants from countries including Jordan, Armenia, Turkey, Georgia, and Afghanistan. Two other Iranian women originally scheduled for the same flight received emergency court orders temporarily halting their removal while judges reviewed the legality of the government's actions.
